  • Bob Montana
  • Bob Montana of course! He was also born in Stockton, California, and when he was seven, he wanted to become a cartoonist. Bob Montana practiced his cartooning by drawing caricatures of the restaurant's customers. When he was 13, his father died of a heart attack, and his mother got remarried too. When he was 21, he created Archie for MLJ's Pep Comics (December, 1941). The success of the character led MLJ to assign Montana to draw the first issue of Archie (November, 1942). He based his characters on the people at his school too, Veronica Lodge was based on an actress, Veronica Lake. Arnold Daggett was based on Moose and Skinny Linehan was based on Jughead. Miss Grundy was based on the school librarian Elizabeth Tuck and Haverhill High School principal Earl McLeod was the basis for Mr. Weatherbee. Groovy, huh? Bob Montana is a genius! I love Archie and the gang!
