  • The market provides what people are willing to pay for. Many people want this feature, so manufacturers include it to increase sales and profits (larger feature set, higher price). Merchants dutifully provide things people "abuse" like "super size" food portions and other products because people ask for them.
  • So that most people can abuse them. If people didn't want them, then the alarm clock manufacturers would not continue to include them on the clocks.
  • This link explores the (very inconvinient) purpose of the snooze button. http://www.risingpun.com/transcript/Snooze.htm
  • I always tend to set my alarm clock 30 minutes sooner than the actual time I want to get up. This allows me to finish my sleep cycle and still get up on time if I hit it more than twice... If I feel good about the first alarm and get up without hitting the snooze, then I have extra time to get ready and remember all the stuff I need to take with me that day. Some days I tend to hit it more than 5 times which actually turns the alarm off.. ooops!!
  • To make people feel guilty about not getting up right away. Because if they simply had a button that shut the clock off and it never rang again, then what's the point of an alarm clock?
