  • Kits start coming out of their nest box about their 3rd week. But they spend most of their time in their nest as they get very cold alone. A rabbit can be weaned at about 8 weeks but it still needs good shelter if it is cold outside. Regulation is really more a case of acclimating and having good draft-free shelter. A full grown rabbit that has lived it's whole life indoors can't just be placed outside for the winter in Oct. It will be too cold. But a rabbit that has lived outside all summer and has been given the opportunity to shed and grown a new coat of fur for the colder weather will do much better in the winter.
