  • Five. EDIT: See photographs here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starfish
  • As few as five ( eg Blue Seas Star- Linckia laevigata) or as many as eight (eg cushion seastar-Patiriella calcar) or even 12 to 19 arms like the Crown of Thorns Starfish which is destroying the Great Barrier Reef of Australia.
  • They may have five or more arms.
  • Well, the magic number is 5, but the sun star, "the most predatory sea star" has 21 arms. FACT: sea stars eat by throwing up thier stomachs onto thier dinner. then, they release stomach and digestive fluids onto thier prey, "dissolving" a hole in thier food. when thier done, they pull thier stomach back in, and thier on thier way. Also, all starfish can regenerate lost limbs, and even grow new bodies on severed ones. This was a problem among sailors because since they cant sell fish with holes dissolved in them, The sailors would bring up the starfish "that would be eating holes in the fish in thier nets," and chop them in half and throw them overboard. little did they know, each half would become a new, fully functional starfish. the most affective way to kill them is to plunk them into a bucket full of salt water. "with more salt than water" They dry up since they cant take that much salt.
