symptoms: 1. Productive cough (coughing up stuff) 2. Wheezing 3. Shortness of breath in some cases (not all, but many) one or more of the following: 1. Chest pains 2. Fever 3. Fatigue Treatment depends on the cause. If of a bacterial nature, antibotics along with a cough syrup is given - if tightness or difficulty breathing is present an inhaler is also given. If viral in some instance an antiviral is given, usually none are, but treatment of the symptoms - cough syrup, inhaler and usually OTC cold/flu medications is suggested to help 'dry out' the person of the issue. The cause is usually figured out without tests. If yo have just recently had the flu or cold it is considered viral. the onset of it by itself is considered bacterial. If you were in a room full of smoke, a fire, around smokers or smoke yourself it could be caused by that irritant. In most cases bronchitis will clear up on its own in about 3 weeks. If it continues longer then it needs an antibiotic/antiviral medication. For high risk groups it can lead to 'walking pneumonia' or a deep lung infection which can require more serious medical aid.
