  • I guess Baseball is a sport rich enough in jargon to be used in many contexts outside of the game itself: "To strike out" "Swinging for the fences", etc And of course reaching 1st, 2nd, base and so on...
  • And there's always "keeping score". Baseball has so many slang terms strung out all over the American landscape because it has long been known as American's National Sport. In the old days, before instant communication, there was great camaraderie in speaking baseballese. As in, "Awww, you're not even in the ballpark with that one." or "Wow, you're batting 1,000 today."
  • Because playing "post office" is out of vogue.
