I have 2 computers at home. My laptop is on the net and both pc's have network cards. I have a Crossover Ethernet Cable. I connected the cord to both pc's, and set up everything, but no luck on my PC.

So your laptop has two network ports? If not, how can the laptop be on the net and connected to the other PC at the same time? Anyway, I think what you should do is not connected them to each other directly, but through a network router. And from the router to your network connection (cable modem?). If you don't need them to connect to the net at all, and just want to transfer files between them, you have some more configuring to do. You need to assign IP addresses to each computer, and set up their network masks, and so on. It's not a particularly simple thing to do, and not all that useful to have them connected only to each other.
