Aside from changing your number (which is unfair to you), maybe borrow a fax machine from a friend, or use call forwarding and forward these calls to a friends machine. That way you will know without a doubt where they are coming from and can send a reply fax politely (optional) pointing out the error of their ways.

Same problem. All the junk faxes come to our non-fax line. What you should do is receive the faxes (on a friends machine, borrow one, buy one..) and they usually have a number on them. Call it, play into their little game, and have fun with playing around. (Give them completely false information for payment, ask stupid questions, offer them products, ask for their fax number to send them 'important documents' and flood them with senseless ads...) The possibilities are endless. I actually traced one here in BC to a company. Called them and found the faxes were coming through a rented phone line, and they 'wouldn't reveal client info'. Nice that they get to live in privacy.... Remember they are sent out in bulk...changing your number does nothing. Good Luck
