  • Did you use a primer or paint designed for covering first? That's what they are for - and you would have saved at least two coats of white. But I have another suggestion. Ask someone else to look at it, without telling them what color you painted over. Perhaps you have been looking at it so long that you are seeing things that the neutral person wouldn't. Good luck! +1
  • Well, did you use a primer? That would've helped.
  • You should always use primer when changing the paint color or type (latex/flat).
  • RUN do not walk, to your nearest paint/hardware store and get a can of a product called "Kilz"...it is guaranteed to cover any color!!! it comes in water or oil-base.............
  • You should have used a primer
  • I'm a 15yr. professional painter. Here's my professional opinion...There are several contributing factors to a wall not covering properly. #1-the difference in shade and color of the wall color and the new color. If the two aren't the same...plan on at least 2 coats. #2- the type of paint you use. stay away from designer paints, and especially BEHR. They're usually way over rated in terms of quality, and usually dont cover well. My recomendation is a quality hardware store brand or paint store brand(porters, sherwin williams, dunn edwards, ect.)Usually flat finish solid base paint covers the best. #3- application...the most common mistake that non-pros make is not putting enough paint on your brush and/or roller. be generous. put plenty on and spread it out and into place. apply a good solid even coat. Another tip to remember is to use a flat finish solid base paint as primer.Unless, of course, you have nasty stains on the wall...in which case I would recomend a primer/sealer like KILZ. Keep applying coats till it's covered completely. then apply the finish paint(eggshell,semi-gloss,satin ect.) as a final coat. it's liable to save you time, hassle, and $. I wish I had more time and typing space to give you the long detailed version of how to paint.
