    There are many, many languages. But, for web design, the most popular are:

    Server side
    PHP
    Perl
    ASP (And ASP.Net)

    On client side, you have
    JavaScript
    ECMA Script
    VB Script

    There also are various applet languages, such as Java and Flash.

    The most commonly used languages are PHP for serverside, and JavaScript for client side.
