  • NOt at all. Green tea is a natural remedy FOR constipation. Of course, if you drank 1- 2 litres of tea a day, you could undo all the good work, according to some reports, but that is the same for most things done to excess.
  • Depends on the type of tea. Certin teas are actually used as a laxitive.
  • Not at all. In fact., certain herbal teas can be used to aid in relieving constipation.
  • I don't think the tea itself causes constipation, but too much caffeine can. Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it causes increased urination. This can lead to dehydration, which can cause constipation.
  • i realize i am just piling on (excuse the pun), but teas have almost the opposite effect. A lot of teas cure constipation.
  • Black tea can cause constipation in some individuals (particularly if they eat little fiber in their diet). Why? Black tea has astringent properties, causing water to be pulled out of the bowel. This creates hard(er) stools to pass. Sweetening tea with sugar can cause the opposite effect, especially on an empty stomach. Why? Because a rush of a high concentration of sugar can cause an osmotic pull of water INTO the colon - thus sending you to the bathroom pronto. Orange jc. on an empty stomach (or any high concentration of sugar) will do the same thing. Caffeine in tea can stimulate a bowel response, as well. The tannins in tea bind iron in foods you eat making it less available to be absorbed by your body., so if you are anemic - it may be wise to watch how much (especially black) tea you drink.
  • Yes black tea is most likely to cause constipation. Don't worry, mix it up with chamomile which causes diarrhea.
  • Teas that contain caffeine have a diuretic effect which can lead to mild dehydration and contribute to constipation.
