  • they get more benefits that way? theres a lot of reverse racism maybe they are trying to take advantage of that. but from what i know africans are a very proud people that might have soemthing to do with it also
  • Perhaps it has something to do with the way anyone with mixed ancestry was viewed historically and legally. Quadroons and octaroons were still considered as black. Some tried to pass as white, but there was a stigma if they were discovered.
  • I'm not sure your idea relates to everyone, Peaches. I've had many a mixed friend and most of them hardly chose one race over another, but I'll answer for myself. I'm mixed with both Puerto Rican and Black, but because my father is Black and the male's genes are dominant, I'm Black. Simple as that. Maybe that has alot to do with people's choices?
  • Well, I know that I prefer to call myself "white" because it's simpler to call myself that. Maybe people who choose to call themselves "black" are the same way.
  • honestly the race that isnt black doesnt usually allow them to claim their race and simply throw them to the side and label them black by their darker then average white complexion and blacks usually are excepting to mixed people with black in them but are occasionally teased for their white parent
  • I have known many folks of mixed heritage, some of them black with whatever, of course. I am of mixed heritage as well. Some say that they are black, some say that they are whatever the other part of the mix, some say mixed. I do not agree with you that "most" say they are black. However, that is my personal observations only.
  • I've yet to meet a mixed kid who called themselves white or black. Usually they just went by mixed. Most of the kids seemed to go by what they resembled the most. A few of myblack/white mixed friend could "pass" as "white" (except for their hair)...so they usually went by white. It all depends on the individual and i think, ultimately, their apperances.
