  • As a not paid umpire (which I have done) I would say the run counted. But, that's my opinion.
  • No run can score on a play when the third out is made by the batter-runner before he reaches first base. Doesn't matter whether the first baseman catches the ball with his foot in contact with the bag or he catches the ball and applies the tag before the BR reaches first base. Same result, the BR is out prior to touching first base - no run scores. Same rule applies under all codes: OBR, FED, NCAA. Here's the OBR rule: 4.09 HOW A TEAM SCORES. EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home base during a play in which the third out is made (1) by the batter-runner before he touches first base; (2) by any runner being forced out; or (3) by a preceding runner who is declared out because he failed to touch one of the bases.
