What could it be? Time to visit the vet.

Call the Vet.. My daughters cat did the same thing, one day fine, next her wouldn't walk..he's only 6..He has lymphoma. He had surgery, and that gave him 3 months so far, but it happens often to cats, with no cure. Im sorry for your Dad.

Contact a vet. You've not given enough information for any diagnosis. Age, weight, indoor/outdoor, past conditions, etc.

I am hoping that you are currently taking your father's cat to the vet. This is not something that should be asked on AB. During the time you take to type this question that cat could die.
-
Could be time to take the cat to the vet. Wait, it IS time to take the cat to the vet.

I just want to let everyone know that if it were my cat it would have already been at the vet. But my dad thinks that he just is sick, like a virus or something. He rescued the cat from a shelter and it has had digestive problems since then. IE: puking after almost every meal and he is quite overwieght for a cat. The recent problem came about when my dad changed his food, which was recommended by the vet. That's when this started. I just wondered if there were any cat illnesses that had these symptoms because my cat is having the same behavior and it didn't start until I came back from handling my dad's cat. It was just an odd coincidence and I'm taking my cat to the vet today.

Cats can suffer from depression if they have lost a close friend weather they were a pet or human. If not, there may be digestion problems that show no symptoms. Take him to a vet soon.

cats will starve themselves if they quit eating. Many cats die from this especially if they are overweight. If they quit eating, their fat will go into their liver and their liver will stop working. Look at the inside of his ears or mouth. If it looks yellowish, it's probably already too late. If you can get him to the vet before this happens, he might be saved.

Your dad needs to at least be syringe feeding him water. Cats need about 50 ml per day. The cat will definitely die if he gets too dehydrated and can recuperate faster if well hydrated. He needs to do this very slowly or the cat will probably vomit it back up. If the cat can't keep it down, then no matter what, it definitely needs to go to the vet to be put on an IV, whether it's just a virus or not.

you don't say how old your cat is, or how cold of an area you live in or if the cat goes outside, but we just had one that got too cold after surgery(it can also happen if outside too long in cold weather) and almost died. the vet had to warm her from the inside out with fluids running through her veins, and a warm light until she warms up, luckly she made it back. good luck to you

I can't believe someone would come to AB with a situation like this. What kind of idiot doesn't just get their cat to an emergency clinic ASAP? I'll bet the cat died...I hope I'm wrong.
