What causes a bruise to not fade?

    Bruises may not fade if there is some swelling in the area that still exists, or if there is a significant amount of damage. Cold helps bruises fade, so the lack of cold (as in an icepack and such) may prevent fading. Bruises can also be signs of diseases and other conditions if they continue to stick around, or show randomly.
