Where do you indicate salary requirement when applying for a job that requests that info?

put a high number in the range of your job type.You can always negociate down,but if you put a low number that is likely what they will go for no matter what you are worth.

I put open but then when i go in for my interview i tell them what i want. I just want to get my foot in the door first.

You can put it in the resume synopsis section (if you used that format)... Other good places would be under the "objective" section
