Yes, and vice-versa. That is why it is good for a couple to use a condom when one or the other has any kind of genital infection. Otherwise, you are just playing ping-pong with the infection, passing it back and forth from one to the other.

Yes. I get regular yeast infections now, but I never ever had one for the first five years I was sexually active. Then I had a steady boyfriend who a few months down the line I had unprotected sex with, and within about 3 days I had my first yeast infection. I've got them several times a year ever since. Not all women carry yeast, only about a quarter, but he must have had it and gave it to me. Now I just can't ever get rid of it completely and it comes back easily if I wear tight jeans or anything. If I could go back, I'd never have had unportected sex with him!

It is important to realize that we normally harbor the fungus/yeast Candida in small amounts in our bodies and that a yeast infection occurs when there is an overgrowth due to conditions that allow Candida to proliferate such as: 1. Antibiotic use, especially broad-spectrum 2. Steroid use or any immunosuppressant 3. Immunocompromised states such as pregnancy, HIV, cancer, or any disease that can cause a neutropenic state 4. Diabetes Of course, it is always a good idea to use protection during sex as other infections such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, syphilis and trichomoniasis are more commonly transmitted. Check the CDC website for more details.
