for me its a bit of both, In a factual question I will check out what differing opions there are from my knowledge; in a moral question I answer from my experiance. This answer had no research.

A bit of both. I often use common sense to answer questions to answer question, my previous experience or if it's an opinion question, then I'll use that, my opinion. The answer I'm writing now is a case in point, I already know the answer, and researching it wouldn't make much difference to my response! I'll research a question that I know could answer, or that interests me. Sometimes I know I could research the answer to a question that requires a definition only, such as 'what is the chemical (X)? I tend not to answer these questions, because it would be very simple for the question asker to research this his/herself.

I typically answer questions about subjects with which I am already familiar. Sometimes I do a web search to identify references to back up my answer. On a few occasions a question has piqued my interest so that I wanted to know the answer and posted after researching it. (No search engines or other sources were consulted in the composition of this answer either... except my spelling checker.)

For me, I like to answer questions that: -I already know that answer to -I've always wondered the answer to -are in any topic that I'm remotely interested in -are thought-provoking or fun For about 85% of my answers I do SOME kind of research whether it be getting some credible sources or trying to be extra helpful by giving some good links. Though it seems I'm hooked on posting some kind of helpful video along with each of my answers now. =) Src: davoo'smind.com

I only truthfully answer questions of topics that i am familiar with. some people research, some people do not. i guess its a matter of choice and how much time you have to research. i do not have much time, so i only answer questions that are either work or family oriented. after 62 years of living, i have a pretty good, overall feeling for what life is all about. Good question.

Mostly I pick questions where I already have some sense of the answer. I may know something about it, and if it is opinion or experienced based, I will answer it. If it is fact based, I will do a bit of research to make sure I'm not giving wrong information, and then I will write out my answer, and add my sources at the end so that the person who asked it can go read more about it if they would like to.

I haven't researched an answer here yet. I seldom have on other sites I have been active. In general, I find more questions I could answer than I have time for. As mentioned above, I sometimes research an answer that interests me. I also have dug for an answer to what I though was an important question that nobody else would be giving a good answer too. If somebody has time to research an answer, fine. I have seen many times the only answer a question got was one somebody dug up. I have a problem with people that dig up bad answers on subjects they know little about from some kooky website. I have seen some horrible examples of this elsewhere on dogs. I have enough experience and training with dogs to recognize a dangerous answer when I see one. And believe me, I see plenty.

I'll do research if I don't know all the details or to verify certain facts.
-
A bit of both actually.
-
A bit of both. Depends on what the question is. For a knowledge question, I verify my facts if I'm not 100% sure or I at least state that it's my opinion. If it's an opinion question, then I just fly off and speak my mind.
-
Never research. I just wing it. If you use big words it sounds like you know what you're talking about:)
-
Mostly mine are opinions or life experience. However, I have been known to do a little research if its something I'm not familiar with and/or am interested in. Otherwise, I like to absorb the knowledge of others. Maybe I'm lazy. ;)
-
once in a while I research a question if I don't know the answer to it and I am interested in the answer.
-
I usually answer what I know. I will check details, but if research is needed, I don't see why I should do the research for someone who is too lazy to do it himself
-
Both if something piques my interest even after answering I will continue to research a subject to learn more about it.
-
I tend to answer everything from my great personal collection of knowledge. I know everything naturally :)
