You are! You should keep a safe distance if there is a sign like that on the truck. If you drive too close and you get a chipped windscreen, it's unlucky but it's not the truck's fault.

You are, its considered a road hazard and even though in the past they used to replace it for you, most companies don't anymore because of fraud. anyone that had a rock chip would pick a truck and call for a replacement. If you had your windshield smashed beyond having any visibility you may want to turn it into your insurance, they can fight for you with special circumstances, but you are pretty much SOL. Insurance will charge you $$$ for replacement and usually under your deductable anyway. If you replace it yourself, it is cheaper from the glass company to boot.. Since they had a sign on their truck, it would make them even more exempt from replacement.

Just because that disclaimer is on his truck, does not make that driver free from responsibility if cargo he is carrying falls off and damages your vehicle. It just keeps a lot of people from knowing their rights.
