if it is windows you can go to start and run, in the open box for run type in the word command (or cmd in xp)
Also you can locate the command prompt by going to start, all programs, accessories, command prompt. This will open up your black command prompt. then type in ipconfig and hit enter.
in windows based OS you can open a command prompt and type in ipconfig and it will give you your ip address. In Linux or Mac you can open a terminal and type in ifconfig and it will give you your IP

To add about the command prompt you just follow these steps.
1) Click 'Start'
2) Click 'Run'
3) Type 'cmd'
4) Click 'Ok' (a black window should come up).
5) type the command 'ipconfig' and then press the enter/return key.
That will give you your IP address.

This was the best answer, just follow the steps, and you'll get it. I don't know a thing about this kind of high tech. The only things I know are web surfing and a little e-mailing.
