Ouch. Everyone wants to know that answer, but many people get angry when you start talking about it.

    Here's my two cents.

    MAYAN:
The Mayan calendar, created thousands of years ago is amazing. It is esoteric and mysterious, like the people who invented it and then vanished. The Mayan calendar of time disturbingly and suddenly ends on December 21, 2012 at 11:11am. They seemed certain this was the end of the world. I don't really understand how they developed the calendar, but it seems to have a lot to do with math, energy, cosmic waves, and so on.

    BUDDHIST WHEEL OF TIME:
On the other side of the world, Tibetan monks use the Wheel of Time to pinpoint when they think the end will come. Equally disturbing, the Wheel of Wime also ends in 2012.

    CHRISTIAN BIBLE:
This will be the bulk of my discussion. Please no one post me down. I understand this isn't science. I understand this isn't fact. I'm just presenting what the Bible says. No one has to believe it if they don't want to.

    DANIEL 9
According to the Bible, Daniel had a dream about 70 "weeks" while he was in Babylon. The dream was an indication that there were 70 weeks before the end of the world. A "week" in this context is "sheba." Sheba means a seven periods of time. In the feminine form, it means a heptad, or a week. In the rarer masculine form, it means 7 years. In the context of this verse (Daniel 9:24), sheba is in its masculine form.

So, in about the year 445 BC, the world was given 490 years until the apocalypse. However Daniel 9 goes on to tell how the 490 years will be divided. It says that 69 "weeks" (483 years) will go by until the "Messiah will be cut off". 483 years later is the death of Jesus. At this point, the apocalyptic timeline is put on "pause." This is called the age of the church.

Eventually, after all the prophecies have been fulfilled, the last seven years (referred to as the seven years of trials and tribulation) will occur.

    MATTHEW 24
On the Mount of Olives, Jesus tells his disciples that they will know when the end is coming. They will not be able to pinpoint it, but as the fig tree moves in the wind, they will know the season.

Verse 5 claims there will be many who claim to be Christ. Countless have done so.

Verse 11 claims there will be many false prophets who will mislead many. This is so incredibly true right now. There is a huge apostate movement right now in and outside of the church. With the DaVinci Code, the Gospel of Judas, all the Gnostic texts, the Jesus Papers, and so on, there are so many being lead astray. I Timothy 4:1-3 also talks about this saying, in the end times many "will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons."

Verses 6 and 7 claims there will be many wars. Obviously there always have been. But verse 7 goes on to say "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom ...". This probably means nothing to those of us who read English, but this was actually a powerful idiom in Jesus' time. To a Jew the idiom means that two nations will get into a war, and every other nation will have to pick sides and begin fighting. The first time this ever happened on a large scale was the first World War

Verse 7 continues, "and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes." This is also an idiom that should be translated as "in various places simultaneously". This also began happening during the first World War. There were earthquakes on opposite sides of the globe at the same time. This has only intensified during the 20th century. There have never been as many major earthquakes recorded in human history as we have now every day. Famines, of course, have also been a huge problem. Africa and India have probably been hit the hardest.

On a lighter note, verse 14 says that the gospel will be preached around the world. I heard at a seminar, now about 1/3 of all American high schoolers will go on a missions trip before they graduate. That is simply astounding. In the last few decades, huge efforts have been made to reach the church-forsaken countries and peoples of the world.

DANIEL 2 uses a very interesting metaphor to describe the Roman empire reuniting in the last days. We have seen this without question in the developement of the European Union.

DANIEL 12:4 talks about how there will be increased travel and information. In the last decade, we have hit an outstanding pinnacle of information with the use of the internet. Missions trips and business trips send people all around the world every day.

The prophecies that have been fulfilled go on and on. The return of Jews to Israel, Israel becoming a nation, the rise of Russia, the creation of the UN (a one-world government), the rebuilding of Babylon (Saddam Hussein started rebuilding the Babylonian temples in the 1990s), and so on.

But what's still going to happen?

Israel became a nation in 1967. LUKE 21:32 says that the generation to see that happen will not pass away, but live to see the apocalypse. Some scholars think a generation is 40 years; this would suggest 2007 as a very suspicious year.

Russia and Palestine will attack Israel. This is going to happen VERY soon. A couple of weeks ago, Russia condemned Israel. Last week, Iran did the same. When the attack happens, Israel will prevail, and the armies of her enemies will be wiped off of the face of the Earth. The wording of these verses seems to indicate a nuclear attack.

After the attack happens, a political leader (the antichrist) will come to power and sign a peace treaty. This "peace treaty" may very well simply grant the UN much more control of the world. The peace treaty will also allow the Jews to rebuild their temple (which has been destroyed for nearly 2000 years). The signing of the peace treaty begins the final seven years.

Some say this is when the rapture happens. Rapture means "to snatch up" in Latin. The idea is that those who are saved will vanish and enter Heaven, spared having to live through the seven years of hell.

During the first three and a half years, the world will experience the Seven Scrolls and the Seven Trumpets. These are plagues that will destroy the Earth.

    From REVELATION 6:

    Scroll 1: White Horseman: Peace
Scroll 2: Red Horseman: World War III
Scroll 3: Black Horseman: A world-wide great depression
Scroll 4: Pale Horseman: Poverty and death from malnutrition
Scroll 5: Martyrs are seen in Heaven
    Scroll 6: Great Earthquake
Scroll 7: Silence in Heaven, followed by more earthquakes
Trumpet 1: Hail, Fire, and Blood - 1/3 of the vegetation is burned up
Trumpet 2: Mountain of fire destroys 1/3 of sea life
Trumpet 3: Star "wormwood" poisons 1/3 of fresh water
    Trumpet 4: Darkness
Trumpet 5: Scorpion locusts attack non-believers - horrible pain
Trumpet 6: Major war from the East lead by 4 demons
Trumpet 7: Vague, but more earthquakes

During this time, there are two witnesses in Jerusalem who are trying to tell the Earth of God. The Anti-christ has them killed, and the world rejoices.

Three and a half years into the seven years, the anti-christ storms into the temple in Jerusalem. He has a man called "the beast", who he claims is the Messiah and should be worshipped. The Beast performs miracles for the world to see.

The anti-christ creates a one-world monetary system using the "Mark of the Beast." If you worship the beast - you may take the Mark. This is an economic system that is used to weed-out anyone who doesn't believe in the beast (who will probably be labeled terrorists by the anti-christ). The mark of the beast is probably an RFID chip implanted under the skin. Think credit chip instead of credit card.

In the last 3 and a half years, there are the seven bowls of God's wrath poured onto the world.

Bowl 1: Those who have taken the Mark will have horribly painful lesions.
Bowl 2: Oceans become like blood - dead. No sea life.
Bowl 3: Freshwater becomes like blood - dead, posion.
    Bowl 4: Intense heat.
    Bowl 5: Darkness
Bowl 6: Euphrates river will dry up and make way for the great battle
Bowl 7: The largest earthquake in the history of the Earth

Christ and his church come down from Heaven for the battle at Armageddon (the hills of Geddon, north of Jerusalem). Satan loses. The world enters a new age.

That's a very brief introduction to the Bible's version of the end of the world. There are so many details, it's hard to write about all of them.

I'll add more as I think about it. What I've written so far is off the top of my head. I've been studying this heavily for about 6 months now.

    I hope that helps.

randomness - is now a Maestro

A few years back, I was given pamphlets saying that the world would end in 2007, and then in 2008...

I think that anyone who gives an exact date doesn't really know what they are talking about.

Nobody knows for sure. There are many predictions and guess's but none of them are exact. My answers to your question is that whenever God decides to end the world he will do so and nobody knows when he will make the world end. (Please don't start anything about if you believe in God or not, I'm not telling you that you have to believe in him but you should.)

Nobody knows when the world will end. The point is, it ends every second for hundreds of people. We are all just a heartbeat away from the end of the world. This world is a dangerous place, and none of us will get out of here alive. All we can do is live as well as we can and seize the opportunities that come our way and make the best of them. We have to live as we would like to be remembered, because we have no way of knowing whether out next heartbeat will be our last. We must live to make our lives count for something good, because we won't get another chance.

According to Harold Camping, he made a mistake in his calculations (again) so now the end of the world (again) is set for October. If this end of the world doesn't get the job done, there's always the Mayan Calendar prediction slated for 2012.

I would imagine that there will be a couple of others that want to try their hand at an end of the world prediction in between these two end of the world predictions. Makes for decent media coverage and drains a lot of money from their followers. For the prognosticators, it seems to be a win win situation but for the followers it a lose lose situation.

WHEN THIS QUESTION COMES ALONG, I CAN'T HELP BUT TO THINK OF THIS PRAYER.

Glory be to the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT. As it was in the BEGINNING, is NOW and EVER shall be, a WORLD without END. AMEN

I'VE BEEN HEARING ABOUT PREDICTIONS AND THEORIES ABOUT THE WORLDS END AND IT'S NONSENSE. WHAT MAKES ME LAUGH, IS THE PEOPLE THAT TALK ABOUT THESE THEORIES, SPEAK AS THEY BELIEVE IN IT. SOMEONE THAT TOLD THEM THIS STORY, MADE THEM FOLLOW IT AND PREACH IT TO FRIENDS AND OTHERS. I SAY BE A LEADER AND CONTINUE TO LIVE YOUR LIFE UNTIL GOD SAYS YOUR TIME HAS ENDED IN THIS WORLD.

Religion has nothing to do with it
thats just and old age trick of controlling people thats been blown way out of proportion
    as 'Scroobius Pip' says,

Religion has become a way for the smaller man to take control
no longer can the biggest and strongest lead as nature intended

In my opinion, the term world refers to the presence of human society,

it doesnt necessarily mean the earth will be destroyed

and by destroyed i mean, by a meteor or a nuclear bomb or however way you want to paint it.

obviously that is a more likely way that human society will end, and will probably destroy or at least seriously taint the conditions needed for support stable life forms.

but i think theres equal chance mankind will create something stupid and completely unnecessary, like a biological weapon
that or something completely natural will mutate into something harmful.
I'm still talking about some 'super-bug' here.

    either way
whether we kill ourselves or not

it wont be long in my opinion.

at the very most, i'm gonna guess about 200 years
    at a push.

    but either way
    it doesnt bother me

we're a cancer to this planet
and we ruin it for other animals with our buildings and pollution

    we all deserve to die

and if someone planted a nuke right in front of me
    regardless of my situation

i'd use it in a heartbeat

The end of the world would come but no one can be specific as to the date and time.

However the scriptures provide an answer, an indication in Matthews 24:14 and it reads "And this gospel of the kingdom (gospel of Jesus Christ) will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come".

  • by Perryman on July 31st, 2006

    Perryman

First lets define this "world"that will end.

This is the usual English term for translating the Greek kosmos in all of its occurrences in the Christian Greek Scriptures except 1 Peter 3:3, where it is rendered "adornment" "World" can mean
    (1) humankind as a whole, apart from their moral condition or course of life,
    (2) the framework of human circumstances into which a person is born and in which he lives (and in this sense it is at times quite similar to the Greek aion "system of things", or
    (3) the mass of mankind apart from God's approved servants.

Evidently because the universe manifests order, Greek philosophers at times applied kosmos to the entire visible creation. However, there was no real unanimity of thought among them, some restricting it to the celestial bodies only, others using it for the whole universe.

When Jesus Christ was asked what would be the sign of his presence and of the end of the world, he said: "Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom".
In 1914, World War I exploded. It caused the greatest loss of life from warfare up to that time. The cost in combatants? Some 9,000,000 died, besides millions of civilians! But World War II was far more devastating, taking some 55,000,000 lives! Jesus pointed out that all of this would be accompanied by food shortages, earthquakes, pestilences, and lawlessness. See Matthew 24:7-13; Luke 21:10, 11.

The Christian apostle Paul also accurately foretold present world conditions. He wrote: "In the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away.
    ( see 2 Timothy 3:1-5)
Now tell me, does that describe the time that we are living in?

As to his own words regarding the time of the end, Jesus said: "When you see these things occurring, know that the kingdom of God is near". (Luke 21:31)

Millions of us use Jesus model prayer and ask for God's Kingdom to come. (Matthew 6:9, 10) But when asked, "What will this Kingdom actually do"? They have no answer. In contrast, millions who study the Bible diligently have learned that the Kingdom will bring an end to this old world and firmly establish a new world that will bring countless blessings to mankind.
The "great tribulation" will come with astounding suddenness, "in one hour". (Revelation 18:10)
Its outbreak will be marked by God's execution of judgment on all false religion, which God's Word calls "Babylon the Great".
    see (Revelation 17:1-6, 15)
Ancient Babylon's dominant feature was false religion.
Modern Babylon is like her ancient counterpart and represents the world empire of false religion. She has played the harlot by compromising with the political elements. She has supported their wars and has blessed armies on opposing sides, resulting in people of the same religion slaughtering one another. (Matthew 26:51, 52; 1 John 4:20, 21) She has winked at the corrupt practices of her adherents and has persecuted true Christians. see Revelation 18:5, 24.
The "great tribulation" begins when the political elements suddenly turn on "Babylon the Great".
Can you see the nations governments growing tired of thr worlds' religions act?
They "will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire". see (Revelation 17:16)
Thereafter, her former supporters "will weep and beat themselves in grief over her'. (Revelation 18:9-19) But God's servants have long expected this, and they will exclaim: "Praise Jah, . . . for he has executed judgment upon the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and he has avenged the blood of his slaves at her hand." Revelation 19:1, 2.

Having destroyed false religion, the political elements turn on God's servants. Satan, "Gog of the land of Magog" in prophecy, says: "I shall come in upon those having no disturbance, dwelling in security". Thinking that they are easy prey, he attacks them with "a numerous military force . . . , like clouds to cover the land". (Ezekiel 38:2, 10-16) God's people know that this attack will fail because they trust in Jehovah God.
Jehovah then delivers the death blow to Satan's system: "I will bring myself into judgment with [Gog], with pestilence and with blood; and a flooding downpour and hailstones, fire and sulphur I shall rain down upon him and upon his bands . . . And they will have to know that I am Jehovah'. (Ezekiel 38:22, 23)
Then, all vestiges of Satan's system are destroyed. The entire human society of God-ignoring people is annihilated. That is the Armageddon climax of the "great tribulation". see Jeremiah 25:31-33; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-8; Revelation 16:14, 16; 19:11-21.
Delivered through the "great tribulation" will be the millions of worshipers of Jehovah earth wide. These make up the "great crowd" who have come "out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues." Why are they delivered in such an awe-inspiring way? Because they render Jehovah "sacred service day and night".
So they survive this world's end and are ushered into a righteous new world. (Revelation 7:9-15)
Thus, they witness the fulfillment of God's promise: "Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, and he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see it." Psalm 37:34.
scriptures cited and WT Magazine 1997 April 1st pages 14-18.

the bible also says that we will not know when the world will end. we will not recognize it. so its not now or soon. because we all are trying to predict it. and if it does im a christian and im saved. so i have nothing to fear from death so this entire chat is pointless. if you are saved it should not matter. you will have eternal happiness in heaven with God. so get over this.

The world will be here for some time yet, scarred but not killed entirely by our presence.

Life as we know it, on the other hand, has another 100 years maybe. Our current way of life is too taxing on the environment and is eating our limited resources much too quickly and carelessly. The oil will not last forever and when its supply ends, war and chaos will follow. On top of that, our population has reached critical mass and our world is a teetering domino.

I believe that the world will end when all life stops existing not when our star dies cause by then we could possibly be living in other galaxies nd what not secondly i doubt that God with all his divine power would instantly kill off every single being that God had ever made almighty spirit of goodness and love so it is when all ceases to exist throughout time natural death which will probably never end

No one knows when the world will end, not even Our Lord Jesus Christ. Only God Himself knows that time.
