Yes. And in some places where it is not legal, too. The tax people take the view that if you are earning, you pay tax. They leave non-tax law to others.

In principle, legal prostitutes have to obey all other laws as well. In Holland, it was claimed that workplace regulations required brothels to have separate male and female changing rooms.

Actually even though it is illegal here (except in certain cities in Nevada), prostitutes are supposed to fill out tax returns here as well. If you read the code (IRS code) it does say that you need to pay income taxes on ALL income whether by legal or illegal sources. Can you see that on the self-employment line when it asks what type of business you offer??!

In Australia, prostitution has been legal since the seventies. Street soliciting is illegal, and brothels are confined to industrial areas. 'Sex Workers' as they are called here pay individual tax. Brothels are subject to company taxes, and are required to pay the same rate of compulsory superannuation to their employees as any other industry. In other words, more bucks for your bang.

Yes, in the netherlands particularly, Prostitution is considered a career, they are taxed and under-go regular health checks as a requirement of the job.

If only our own government would take such an approach, you aren't going to stop people from doing it, So why not legalise it? then At least you can control it!

We should take note of Hollands methods of dealing with such things. E.G. Marijuana is legal there... Yet they have a MUCH lower percentage of marijuana users than the UK and USA, where it is a very wide-spread problem. It's not seen as 'taboo' so it's not as desirable..

Nevada, Netherlands, and parts of Australia. In Australia some brothels are on the stock exchange.
