Prescription drugs as prescribed by a qualified physician or psychiatrist can make you a better person by fixing chemical imbalances in the brain or body. Recreational drugs do not make you a better person... maybe a more experienced person if they don't kill you... but some experiences don't need to be had. I don't need to get shot to know it'll hurt and is bad for me... I might live, but would be better off without a gunshot wound. They have a tendency to change a person and seldom for the better.

No but neither does it necessarily make you a bad person. Nearly everyone takes recreational drugs from time to time, be it nicotine, alcohol or whichever.
