yes. i have personal experience with the cingular SIM card. i have used it for when i go off to Haiti or to Brazil were i don't get a phone signal for my regular state phone. but trust me. it does work better.

i doubt it! they told me the exact opposite. i switched from a cingular sim card to an at&t one. i get relatively better service now, but that could be different in different areas. anyhow, i'd see if you can get one of each and test it out yourself. :)

The reception is all in the phone, it has nothing to do with the sim card. Cingular told you this so they could get money and upgrade you to another 2 year service agreement. If prepaid, it would also gain them additional money. Most sim cards from Cingular and the new AT&T are around $25.00 for prepaid and sometimes free for postpaid accounts but again, you will be signing an agreement.

The reason why a new SIM card may work better is due to it's capacity. Old SIM's are 16k or 32k and have limited value added services. Newer 3G 64k and 128k SIM's can hold more network specific information and make video-calls and other network features more reliable. A SIM card holds a lot of information that allows it to communicate with individual cell-towers, an older SIM card will still work with upgraded cell towers - but you may find some newer services to not work as reliably with new phones. Upgrading to a new SIM shouldn't cost you anything and you should not be forced into a contract to simply upgrade your SIM.

i can tell you that my older sim card gave me much better reception with my razr phone than the new sim cards. the new cards are cutting my reception and giving me flucuating signals along with static on the phone. well.... i just ordered 3 older cards from ebay and will activate that for my phone when they get here and hopefully have my "GOOD" signal and reception back. to heck with all of their new technology!
