While yes, our society is a whore to the entertainment history, I'd just like to point out a few things: Seth (the guy in the commercial) was my gymnastics coach for a while; it's not as if 'slam dunk artist' is his only viable job skill. He was the first coach I did double backs with on floor...(lol. fun times.) I mean you have to consider that it's not as if there are a lot of 'get rich quick' jobs for gymnasts out there, so you really can't blame him for taking that contract (Bud-Light dare-devil, I think it was?). I'm guessing his half-time shows were what led to Aleve featuring him for one of their commercials and they just wanted to accentuate that point. (So in summation--He's a nice guy---it's not as if he refers to himself as a 'slam dunk artist' in actuality. You shouldn't be so quick to judge....everyone needs to make a living somehow.)

*historically (haha....and yeah, I knew that's what you were going for with this question, I just had to defend his side, just b/c.) Though I totally agree with your point; this really has become...........*sigh*....hell, just turn on MTV and see how bad the problem really is. Ha. and knowing it's my generation that's fueling this trend....big hopes for the future of american's youth. (Well, to be fair you can really divide it into two groups, one that's comparatively far advanced for their time, and one that's the epitome of trash)
