For full freedom, its the automobile. you can set your own timetable and have a leisurely trip. All other forms of transportation are set on schedules. In a train or on a plane, you are at their mercy. and, they have stopped serving food. no brakes on a plane or a train, like in an automobile. Overall, the automobile still is the best mode of travel. It made not be the safest, but it offers more choices and more freedom.

Bus tours are great if you are a 'mature' single person, looking to to meet new people, as you are usually with them for the whole trip. The tour is a a fairly leisurely pace with breaks for meals and early stops for the night (no red eye seats on these). Next to that, I would take the train so long as I could have a 'stateroom' unit and they still served meals. The rocky mountain tour in Canada is awesome - it is the scenic dome car and it travels from Vancouver to Calgary through the rockies. The scenery is beyond beautiful. Then I believe you fly back to Vancouver. It is truly a great way to see B.C. and the Rockies.
