Why did Jimi Hendrix take a right handed guitar and re-strung it to play lefty, when he could of just buyed a letfy guitar?

His father bought him his first guitar and it was right handed and his family wasn't exactly wealthy so instead of asking for a lefty he just restring the right handed guitar and made it a lefty. After that he was used to doing it that way and just left it.

There weren't many left handed guitars back then and his first one was a right handed and he got used to the arrangement and continued with it.
