They don't have to, they don't all end like this. Relationships take work from both people, commitment from both people. Only then can it be real love. If it's only one person, it's incomplete and has nothing to feed or nurture it. I don't know why your relationship went to such extremes, but it's not unusual for someone to go from one extreme to the other when the pain is so bad. Hurt makes us do extreme things.

It's almost oxymoronic that love can change into hate so easily--almost like flipping a coin. You can always sit down and write a letter to this person and hold onto it for awhile before you mail it. The process of writing can shed some light on what the issues were that led to the split. Apologizing for any way that you may have hurt or slighted this person may be another good way to mend fences with this person. If there is any way at all to bury the hatchet with this person, maybe the hatred will dissipate.
