My original answer that you reference: There is no home remedy for a UTI, only ways to prevent them. To cure a UTI, you must see your physician who will prescribe an antibiotic. To prevent UTIs, as stated by other answers, drink lots of cranberry juice and/or take cranberry tablets. The tablets are sold most drugstores and are called Azo. There are 2 kinds: prevention tablets and tablets that ease the discomfort of an already existing UTI. My OB/GYN also mentioned that taking frequent hot baths with lots of bath salts, bubble bath, etc., can also make one more susceptible to UTIs. It is also recommended that you empty your bladder before and after intercourse. Always wipe front to back after using the toilet since doing otherwise can spread bacteria. 1. Azo (brand name) UTI prevention tablets are ONE way to help prevent UTIs. Basically, they are cranberry juice in tablet form. A lot of people don't like cranberry juice or don't want to drink a ton of it every day, so this is an alternative. 1-4 tablets per day acording to the box. 2. The second Azo tablet is one that eases the pain of an already existing UTI. One might take this to keep the pain managable until they can get to a Doctor. 1-3 tablets per day according to the box. These should not be used for more than 2 days without consulting a Dr. Azo is available at most drugstores. You can also read the full package description and buy it at http://www.drugstore.com (type Azo in the search box and it comes right up).

OK....There is a terrible rumor out that cranberry juice works a miracle and is 10x's better then water. This isn't true. Ask your doctor...don't take my word for it. Water is the best way to flush out your system. You can add a tablespoon of baking soda and a touch of lemon (for taste...it's gonna suck no matter what) and do this once a day along with as much water as possible. One of the largest causes for a UTI is carbination in drinks.....yelp and for you ladies out there.....DONT DOUCHE and DONT BATH......ask your OB GYN....if they know anything about anything they will tell you that both is a NO NO and a bath can bring on a UTI!

Over the last year I have many of the symptoms relating to UTIs for prolonged periods although it has been confirmed by tests that there is often no infection present. My recommendation is to take 2 cranberry tablets on a daily basis. Since I started I've had no symptoms and thats been 3 months now. I wouldn't recommend cranberry juice as this contains sugar which feed the bacteria. As already mentioned avoid perfumed body washes etc. My doctor also recommended flushing out your system before and after sex.
