My definition of studied is having spent a lot of time reading and researching a subject, whether it be self study or taught. Reading a "few books" is not the same as "studied" IMO. Why do people say that? It depends on the person I suppose and how THEY define "studied". I have come across people who say this to sound more intelligent than they really are and I have come across some that honestly think reading up on something is the same as having studied something. Your guess is as good as mine.

Studying is actually different from just reading. There's actually more work that goes into studying. Those people are probably aiming for your respect. I'm not one of them, though. When I've read about a subject, I'll saying "I've read about...". My grandmother likes hearing about what I've read. When I visit, I always have something new to say--which is great! Because, I don't have a life.

Well, our teachers tell us to study even if we only have to read one textbook, so meh.

I feel that if someone reads a few books on a subject they have studied it. They went out of their way to learn more about something, that is studying to me. It's not like they said they had mastered the subject or were an expert on it.

Coz they're full of sheep.

Because that's level of "study" all it takes to qualify as an expert on Creationism.
