I think musical taste is a fair indication of osmeone's personality, tho' it might just be a reflection of the culture they were raised in. My husband's music is surprising if you met him as he seems very detached and unemotional, yet a lot of the stuff he plays is about love relationships, sadness and expressive. He particularly likes his music for the words. Maybe this is because he can't express his true feelings?

I've judged people by their music, but I often find that after getting to know the person, they interpret the words, musical genre and style much differently then stereotypically labeled, so much so in their own way that you wonder what makes them attracted to a specific genre to begin with. A lot of times, mainstream preferences seem a facade to hide something else entirely, too. There are a lot of different things from music, obscure or popular that I've used to try and pinpoint a person with, and most times I found that it does say something, but usually not what we originally think or in the ways we generally attribute this linking to, and it usually doesn't penetrate deep enough, even if the person's life IS music. If music is a doorway to the soul, then whatever a soul is, it must get pretty complicated and misinterpreted a lot. A lot of people who listen to rap are actually really deep philosophers, for example. A lot of people who listen to metal don't know the difference between the words hierarchy and anarchy. I don't use music to judge anyone anymore, except as a means to try and determine their genres and maybe culture, especially for genres like Blues or Jazz.

Well, how else WOULD you judge them????

Not entirely, but it factors in. Music taste is usually a decent indicator of what kind of person they are behind who they project to the outside world
