Does going to court to settle a divorce really benefit anyone?

    I didn't. Either of the two times I've been divorced. First time we divided our bills and each paid half, had no money, no house. Second time I ended up paying a $20,000 house settlement and two years $500 a month "alimony" just to get it over with, to stop the fighting. Mine is not an alimony state, especially not for the wife to pay as I did, but I wanted it over, knew he would fight me forever, perhaps even staying in my house through it all, so it was worth it, just to have it over.
