  • Thought he was a brilliant writer. Didn't know about the other thing.
  • No matter what, he will always be remembered as the author of "2001". I always think of the novel "Rendezvous with Rama" as his best work.
  • The accusations of pedophilia were TOTALLY wothout foundation. A couple of very dirty minded journalist s in London were unable to tell the difference between a homosexual and a pedophile. The evidence was 1. He is homosexual 2. He is a member of his local country club 3. Families are members of the local country club. Therefore, by twisted journalistic logic and totally falsely, he is a member of the country club in order to prey on children in the families. Therefeor, knowing (by the previous logic) that he is a pedophile, he must have done the other things that pedophiles do, like trying to purchase kiddy sex. The whole farrago is a disgusting example of the way that sensation-seeking journalists try to find chinks in tha armour of apparently decent people - they cannot accept that some people have lived entirely decent lives. There is not a shred of evidence that he has ever been other than an ordinary homosexual who kept his sexuality secret because it was a criminal offence in his younger days. I find it disgusting that the groundless allegations are still going round. The tabloids concerned have apologised and paid damanges. And, in my opinion, he was one of the greatrest writers of the the twentieth century.
  • was he really a sex-case? I didn't know that.
  • I think he was a fantastic writer, I have read so many of his books and I personally have not heard anything about the accusations. I will be remebering him for a truely brilliant writer
  • Intelligent man about town, popularising the alternative in science.
  • I have not seen any conclusive proof that he was a pedophile. Charges were raised against him but were never proven. I was not there in his home to make a judgment for myself. Hence, I shall remember him as a brilliant writer and scientist.
  • I don't know how to feel about it. Were the charges true? Were they proved? I have always enjoyed his works but then I read about his supposed pedophilia and it did put me off reading his novels...and to be honest I haven't read any in a long while. I just don't know what to think about it. But I do feel funny buying or reading he books, I keep looking for evidence in his writings...Very mixed up answer but that is how I feel about this subject. Not conclusive.
  • I'm sick and tired of people being hounded in regards to their sexuality. The allegations of pedophilia were never proven and with his death and any chance of getting money from him gone, they probably never will be proven. Arthur C. Clarke, aside from being a respected scientist in his own right, was one of the Grand Masters of Science-Fiction and will remain so regardless of his sexuality. His name will join the giants of the field that have gone on before... Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein, and now Arthur C. Clarke. When you think of Oscar Wilde you think of wit and his many writings, you rarely think of his prosecution for homosexuality. When you think of Alan Turing you think of code-breaking or the Turing Award (computing's Nobel Prize equivalant) you don't think of his arrest and probation, on the condition that he undergo hormone treatment. Which ultimately led to his possible suicide. Let's all just wake up people! It's time to rise above such petty prejudices as whose sexuality is what and let people stand on their own merits. Arthur C. Clarke was a genius and a visionary... end of story.
