I don't know when they're planning on ruling, but they're hearing arguments today. I suspect if they do declare it unconstitutional (which I hope they do), most of the other cities will withdraw their bans. Some, especially in the Northeast and California, will try to find loopholes (banning ammunition or tightening licensing requirements, for example), which will start a whole new round of court challenges. It's like abortion: One side will never be happy until the other side unconditionally surrenders, which will never happen.

It is a travesty and a mistake, and obviously they did not understand the meaning of the 2nd amendment, and it did not mean the public has the right to own firearms.
-
Everyone in Texas carries a gun and it's a civilized place.
-
Then they finally got something right. Someone needs to stand up for our constitution and rights and liberties!
-
I think they made the right decision. People forget that the Founders had just been through a revolution where they broke away from what they saw as a corrupt and evil government, and they foresaw the possibility that our own government could turn into something eerily similar. Therefore, they granted the people an unconditional right to own and bear arms. That said, I do believe that some gun control is necessary. Licensing and registration is proper, as is keeping guns out of the hands of convicted criminals and the insane. But an outright ban only denies the rights of law-abiding citizens. A criminal can get and use a gun regardless of whether there's a ban or not. Just look at the rise in gun violence in Britain, where there's a general ban on individuals owning guns, especially handguns.

The only thing that this ruling changed is that the victims can now defend themselves. WOW! a victory for self preservation.
-
Finally a court that recognises our constitutional right.
-
I agree completly. We have the right to bear arms.
-
I don't own one but, if my front yard became a battlefield as most were when they first came up with the idea-I would want the right to have one. It is definitely unconstitutional to ban firearms.
-
It's another example of how the feds are taking precedence away from the states! This is in violation of the constitution, concerning what is in the states purview!
-
I think they upheld the original intent of the Constitution and the law. More, I think that the law is a good one. Seriously - how many Militias do you think are out there that are healthy and good ones? And if/when the government gets far enough gone that we need one, do you seriously think that they'd let us START getting/forming Militias to resist them if they don't already exist and the guns aren't already around?
-
one has to read the whole ruling to get an understanding of it. i am waiting for the concealed weapon rule to be overturned. i think everyone should be able to carry a concealed weapon.
-
Unless a city or police department will take on a specific rather than a general obligation to protect people and to accept liability for failing to protect its citizens without additional or undue strain on taxpayers, then there is no SANE reason why cities should be allowed to insist its citizens place blind faith in government protection and not be allowed to use a proactive, self-reliant means of self-protection! I agree 100% with the Court's ruling.
-
I totally agree with the 2nd amendment. HOWEVER the media is spinning this as a victory for the pro gun lobby. It is NOT!! If you read the details you'll find they're really saying "You have the right to own a gun BUT we have the right to take it off you under millions of different regulations". The power to regulate is the power to destroy. The government is planning to create so many hoops to jump through it will be practically impossible to own a weapon. This ruling is designed to put constitutionalists to sleep while the government covertly disarms the population by executive fiat.

I am glad they got this one right. It means no one will be coming to take away my legally registered, and constitutionally allowed guns. And the Supreme Court made the correct analysis that it is, in fact, the right of the PEOPLE, not just the militia, to bear arms. Does anyone really think the militia can be depended upon to protect us from a tyrannical government??????
-
I agree with the Court. I have owned and shot guns for target practice and hunting for over 50 years (since age 14). Never have had a problem with them. I bought my first handgun at age 21 (as soon as I legally could). I own several target and hunting long guns and registered handguns. They are kept locked up since we have grand children around sometimes.

The Constitution of The United States gives each person the right to bear arms. How could The Supreme Court rule, otherwise?
-
I'm all for it I hope the lawsuits in Chicago and San Francisco have simiar results

Its about damn time! For 1.Washington D.C. is not a state. It may not be the true home of the Decleration of Independence or the Bill of Rights, but it is the home of the true law of our country,(finally). How is it that most of our rights by law have been deemed to be personal rights except the one to keep and bear arms. Nearly every thought, and the process of thought by our forefathers, was,(thank God)written into historical record, finally someone is beginning to get it.i.e. "No free man shall be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government".
