Infections come from viruses and bacteria which were here since Earth was created along with other living organisms. We become sick when these viruses and bacteria come in contact with our living body cells. Viruses usually invade our living cells, use them as "factories", destroy the cell, and in the process, create more viruses. Bacteria simply feed off of living cells as a normal consumer would. Both of these make us feel ill due to our immune systems struggle to eliminate the threat to the body. Your body temperature rises in order to help fight bacteria. (A symptom of a bacterial or viral infection- fever) Why these viruses and bacteria were put on this Earth is irrelevant.
