  • In the U.S. it is a third brake light at the rear of the vehicle mounted in the rear glass rather than the rear bumper/trunk area. It is called a Dole light because former Secretary of Transportation, Elizabeth Dole's administration mandated it. It's purpose, according to Dole, is to help prevent rear end collisions.
