  • I asked a similar question a long time ago: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/95506 As you can probably guess from my question, I believe that American democracy is a wonderful experiment, but that it was developed here in specific relationship to our own cultural norms. Democracies from other cultures have to flow from their own cultural norms, usually errupting spontaneously.
  • For most of our history, we were a well designed democracy. But the last twenty years, we have grown more to being a republic. But it flunctuates, the mid forties through the the early fifties, we were more of a republic than we are today, primarily because of military actions. In a true democracy, most everyone agrees to go to war, or anything of importance. In a republic, only a select few.
  • I refuse to answer this question on grounds of bias in the wording.
