When I had a day job, I LOATHED Thursdays. It was like freedom was so close, yet so far away. I felt like a dog on a choke chain, and the steak was JUST too far for the leash to reach.

According to the Hindu astrology, the Sun is the king and the Moon is the queen. They are supposed to sit on the top of the planetary court. Mars is the commander of army, so he sits next. Mercury is prince, so he sits next. Jupiter and Venus are religious priests, so the sit next. Saturn is the servant, so he sits next. The energy influence hierarchy can also be interpreted in terms of the influence of the planets on earth. Hindu astrology says that the Sun is the ruler or controller of the planets. The energy from the Sun influences earth the most. Next comes the moon. The influence of moon on sea tides is known to science. Then the influence of other planets, which is not well studied by modern science is taken in this order - they follow the same order as they are located in the solar system, but they are selected according to polarities. The inner planets are called female planets and the outer planets are called the male planets. The sequence is placed alternatively - one male and one female. The first male planet is Mars, then the first female planet Mercury, then the next male planet Jupiter, then the next female planet Venus, and then the next male planet Saturn. The Hundu astrology says that the astro-body which influence the earth most influences the mind of humans least. Accordingly, the Saturn's influence on human mind is said to be most effective. Now comes a very important question. Why only the seven planets are considered for naming the weeks. Did they not know about the existence of other planets. Science knows that the 'corona' of the sun extends only upto planet Saturn and not beyond. The psychic principle of influence is dependent on this aspect. There are other implications which are rarely discussed in other ancient texts. The Kundalini Yoga of the Hindus speaks about the seven centres along the spine. The first day of the week according to the Hindus is Sunday. On Sunday, the centre on the top of the head gets energized. On Monday, the pineal gland inside the brain gets energized. On Tuesday, the throat centre gets energized. On Wednesday the lungs centre gets energized. On Thursday, the naval centre gets energized. On Friday, the private part centre gets energized. On Saturday, the anus centre gets energized. This has been the observation of the great Rishi who wrote Yoga Upanishads. You can also observe the same if you go to country side and spend a few weeks. The rising of the threshold level in cities is not normally conducive to such observation. Many philosopher of yore observed the same and named week days according to the major influence of the planet on that day. The planets are given the order accordingly. It is also the descending order of energy influence on the components of mind. Ancients of every land recognized this fact. That is the reason why the seven days of the week are named after the same seven planets throughout all cultures of the world.
