Great Question - It may be too much work for them. After all, turning the shower on, wetting their body, adding soap to a cloth and rubbing it on their body does take alot of work. LOL

I think for the most part it is being lazy and not caring, low self-worth, depression, mental illness.

The only good excuse would be some kind of mental or physical illness that prevents them from doing so. Otherwise, I'd say plain old laziness and bad/poor upbringing. My s/o has an elderly great aunt who was raised poor and didn't have plumbing as a child. She has it now, but still rarely bathes (don't know when/if she does). The family always feels "obligated" to invite her to family functions...but only her daughter will sit next to her. I can't even describe the stench without grossing myself out.

Depression.

speaking of hygiene issues, I read this this afternoon on Yahoo news. I'm repulsed by poor hygiene, but this is a tad extreme, don't you think? Burned alive for "not washing feet" Wed Mar 12, 11:51 AM ET A Chinese bride burned her new husband to death after he got into bed after a drunken argument without washing his feet, state media reported on Wednesday. "Wang and his wife, Luo, were married on February 2. The couple, however, frequently fought over trivial things while still on their honeymoon," the official Xinhua news agency quoted a local newspaper as saying. The couple, from the central province of Hubei, had another fight on the night of March 4, "and in frustration they together drank a bottle of liquor to ease their anger." "At about 10 p.m., Luo watched her husband get into bed without cleaning or washing his feet. In a fit of anger and intoxication, she set fire to the sheet he was sleeping in," the report said. "When he awoke, the two began fighting before a very drunk Wang collapsed. As fire engulfed the bedroom. Luo escaped to the living room, leaving her other half to burn," it added. The woman has been arrested, Xinhua said. (Reporting by Ben Blanchard)

Well sometimes I really cannot be bothered to have a shower (for a night, the next night I definately would) I jsut can't be bothered getting wet, then having to dry myself. I prob jsut lazy i guess
-
I can only think of two things, sm00z..mental illness or senility! :(
-
Id say laziness
-
I think daily showers are way overrated. It is the product of a corporate conspiracy to sell more cosmetics. The extremes I read here are wrong, but so is the opposite extreme.
-
Certainly, laziness.
-
For me it's working too much. Simply being so exhausted and not wanting to cut into the necessary absolute minimum amount of sleep needed to get up and do it all over again.
