you can buy sim cards here in the UK. If you are visiting family, you could have one sent to their address. Otherwise you can buy them at phone shops. However they are Pay as you go. If you go to 02.co.uk you can subscribe to the simplicity plan, which is a monthly plan, £15 p/m with no long-term contract. You may need to check that your phone is unlocked.
