My 99 Ford Taurus service engine soon light came on after my spedometer stopped working. Now the spedometer is working again but the service engine soon light is still on. The car runs great. What could be the problem?

Ur mileage may have exceeded a "Preset Figure" that caused a "Code" to be thrown & effect the Speedometer by not working for a short while. This is Common as CORPORATE GREED wants to FORCE U to go to the "Dealer" for a "Service" to the Transmission at which time they will sell U Everything they can!!! Then, they will "Clear the "Code" by using their "Code Reader" or pulling the Negative Battery terminal off for 5 minutes. & then putting it back on. U could also go to Auto Zoners & have them Check & Clear any "Codes" they find. Don't go without needed "Service", but if Ur like me U do it before it's needed, then the "Idiot Light" is just a Hemorrhoid!!! I hate this especially at the End of Ur Warranty Period they go & Scare Grandma & Grandpa to Death & Rape them with a Huge "Service Bill". John

check out your speed sencer if its bad it can set a code an send it to your computor' causing the light to come on.it also controls the transmission shifting it is located on top of the transaxel on the passenger side
