Life goes in cycles. Right now it seems like hard times are back.

I suspect things have always been bad. We just have greater access to information today, which makes things seem so much worse than it seemed in the past.

Population is multiplying, natural resources are being used up. We are destroying the one thing we truly need. (The Earth) These are some bad things, but hey we are alive and living. I also believe that out of death comes life and things will get better sooner or later. I believe that most bad things come from mankind, from mankind’s greed, and power hungry whores.

Environmentally, parts of the globe are being despoiled, to the point where there's going to be unintended cascade effects at some point maybe soon. . Poverty-wise, large parts of the globe live in horrible poverty. Was it better 500+ years ago, when people were poor but most lived in villages where there was some social structure, even if they died at age 30? . I agree with Saboteur and you about the distribution of news and the sensationalism of the press. . Life in the West has certainly gotten materially better and more civilized (no more burning heretics or setting dogs on bears in pits for fun), but the earth cannot sustain this level of lifestyle for everybody. And there's the spiritual deadness of much of the West, replaced by... what, materialism and short-term distractions? . So overall, it's a mixed bag. But all we can do is to be a light, think globally, and act locally.

Well, the problems of today can hardly be quantifiably compared to the big problems of eariler times, because while some issues have gotten better over time, that imrpovement has all too often come at the expense of other issues, and many of the things that have changed are completely unconnected with others.

at home things are great....but outside oh god...getting worse...what's up with people?

Things are getting worse on every level. People are changing and becoming less kind and respectful. The environment is threatened on many levels, the food we eat is unhealthy, water impure. Instead of becoming a closer smaller world in a good way, people are more divided than ever before with nationalism and racism.

How people might answer this question would depend on whether or not they get to eat every day, sleep in comfort and warmth every night, are able to provide for the needs of their children, etc. etc. The answers you get here will probably not give you a very accurate view of the state of affairs of most of the world or the state of affairs of the people in the world. It is a matter of perception. Someone living in a very well secured gated community would wonder what you were talking about...someone living in a box under a bridge somewhere would have a different perspective.
