  • I live in Broward County Florida. Here the buses already have video and voice recording. If your county does not, I don't think it would be illegal but it also would not be admisable in court. If you feel the driver is abusive then I would speak to the principal first and then the school superintendent.
  • I did this. I went to the Principal, the route manager, operations manager, and susbarn. They told me ' the have to tend to believe the bus driver' That is why I sent My son with a recorder to see if my son was as "out of control" as the bus driver said. What I found was a kid that says maybe 10 words the whole bus ride and the bus driver treated him worse after the numerous meets. I even told them I have seen him misstreat my son with my eyes and they still wouldn't believe. I brought proof that the bus driver was doing refferals out of retaliation since he wasn't even on the bus on some says the driver says his is being "uncontrolable"
  • I'm not a lawyer, but it should be legal as long as 1) you're part of the "conversation".. eg you're not intercepting - just recording your environment, and 2) the person speaking doesn't have a reasonable expectation of privacy.. eg in a public place or with consent. Why would anyone ordinarily expect things said on a bus in front of others to be private? You also said the voice recorder would be "in plain view", so I'm assuming the driver would know he is being recorded. The only problem I see might be school policies on use of electronics like cell phones.. but even that shouldn't be a problem if you talk to the principal. Don't forget you can also capture video from a cell phone/camera video recorder. This might help validate some of your claims.. "I have seen him misstreat my son with my eyes and they still wouldn't believe".
