I would say AIDS. We are making inroads into cancer, but haven't "cured" AIDS yet. Plus, it is devastating entire continents.

Bigotry and discrimination. These are the cause of much misery and sadness in the world. I know these aren't viral diseases, but they are very widespread, and can be deadly.

Cancer, it touches the lives of so many innocent people.

Leukemia. I have a relative about my age who's in hospital right now, probably waiting for his death because of leukemia.

All strains of influenza. There have been more outbreaks of influenza that have killed millions than I can remember right now. The bird flu is being reported in Asia and is predicted to be devastating. It has already jumped the bird/human barrier.
