  • Carefully. The Treasury Department takes a dim view of such activities, and spends considerable time and energy tracking down counterfeiters. And the sentances counterfeiters receive are often rather harsh. Making counterfeit money can be done with a wide range of techniques, from low-tech to very high-tech. (The real problem is how easily the counterfeit bills can be passed, but that's a whole different question.) Some counterfeiters will cut the corners out of, for instance, a $10 bill and glue them in place over the corners of a $1 bill. In the 70s someone in the small town where I lived simply made color copies of bills and glued them back-to-back and was able to pass several around town before he was appreheded. Other counterfeiters use cutting-edge technology to make bills that can be hard for the average person to recognize as counterfeit. Counterfeiting US money starts with the paper used for bills, which is very special and very hard to duplicate. Aside from the quality of the paper, there are small red and blue threads embedded in it. One way counterfeiters have gotten around this is by actually printing the small threads on the paper. Another way is by taking $1 bills and "washing" them in some way to remove the ink, and then reprinting them as $20s. But recent changes to American bills make duplicating the paper even more difficult, as each new bill now has a strip embedded in the paper it's printed on. And to keep counterfeiters from pulling the trick of using paper from lower denomination bills, a watermark portrait has been added to the paper that echoes the portrait on the bill. Hold a new bill up against the light, and you'll see both the strip and the watermark portrait on the right side of the bill. The next problem is the printing. With the state of modern desktop publishing, this no longer calls for the skills of a master engraver, as it once did. Still, cutting-edge technology is required, as the engraving on genuine bills is designed to be difficult to reproduce well. The fine-lined borders and details and the microprinting which are crisp and clear on a real bill are generally a bit fuzzy and poorly defined on counterfeits. The final problem to creating counterfeit bills is the "color shifting" ink that has been added to new bills. While various "color-shifting" paints are now available, my guess is that it would be difficult to find one that duplicates the colors used on bills. (Not to mention applying it accurately.) So the very first step to counterfeiting money (or being able to detect it) is to examine real money very carefully and become familiar with all the various anti-counterfeiting features. • Depends all on the country where the currency is. Some is very very easy to make, other places such as Vietnam have made "plastic" money which can't be done "low tec". Regardless of what money you choose to create, keep in mind that one.. if you are caught. you are going to be in very serious trouble.. is it really worth it? Even making $100 dollars in funny money can land you in a whole wack of trouble. Detectors of funny money have become something that just about every 711 or gas station can afford.. and they do have them. The low tech version of just scanning and cutting them out on plain computer paper was something to bug friends with, and if you are risky enough, try to pass them in between a few real bills at a busy store or flee market... so it's not something you can go and drop off at the local bank. As for creating something that can be passed almost anywhere, it can be done.. it takes a lot of practice... but then again.. the thought of getting caught is not worth the risk.. I have bought a few simple counterfiet detectors and been able to create bills to pass threw them.. but the time/cost to create them are also not worth it.. If you happen to have your own printing press, and about a dozzen people to work with .. and a few months of planning, it's actually quite easy. Now the OLD BILLS in Canada and FORSURE the U.S. are very easy to fake. Even a simple scanner and then a deskjet printer can create bills that can be passed. It's forsure a one person operation. For one, I recomend that you don't do it at all, but .. if you are like me and only do it for the challenge and don't pass them.. Keep in mind on a few points. What happens when you scan them? A void comes accross them, however the internet has dozzens of pictures of the money online, they won't be as detailed but close enough. Take that with a scanned version of a bill with the void accross and a simple photo editor can match the two. Then Printing with a desk jet can work, however watch the paper.. going to a local art supply store will give you the papper that you will need, just bring some "real" cash with you and check thickness. After you have printed a few and have a pretty close match to the real bills, bust them up a bit.. make them look a little older, something that has been around. If you are unsure about the quality, place one of your "home made ones" in with a few real ones.. if you can tell them appart, so can the people you give it to. And don't be stupid enough to hit a bank or casino... go to the local flee market or something to pass them.. that's about the only way you will have a 1% chance of not getting caught. IF YOU ARE A STORE: Forsure go out and buy yourself a small dector your bank can probably suggest a good one, or call your local police services and ask. There are many different types but here is the kick.. post a sign that says "money dector on site" but keep the detector underneath the counter or something so that people can't see which kind of dector that you have. That will cut the chances of getting fake bills by 99% I swear. If you do get something that the scanners don't pic up, the bank probably won't either...and your insurance is probably going to go down if you have a scanner anyway. Always seperate the bills when counting it.. if someone hands you 4 bills that they just counted infront of you, count it again.. that's the biggest scam. And it's not offensive either, most people will respect it. As for all the tips on governement sites well geuss what counterfieters look at. Conartists are everywhere, I will say that the goverments are at a see-saw battle with curency, they become hightec, and it just make more people want to try to make it. The new Canada bills are very easy to fake, take a simple paper making course and a book on watermarking. When the new $20 bills came out, the day later friends of mine had it solved. The US new bills are pretty hard to fake, but still.. don't think that there aren't any fake ones out there. For closing. if you are here you are probably trying to figure out how to make counterfiet money.. well.. DON'T go out and hot wire a car or something.. its not as dangerous. And if you are a store, remember.. Debit cards and Credit cards can't be printed at home.. accept them.. and COUNT EACH BILL, BUY A DETECTOR they are totally worth every penny!
  • When color laser copiers first came out we all heard that they made convincing copies of money. I had gone to a print shop for some work. They had the new color laser copier. It was the size of 2 refigerators on their side. I asked the person behind the counter if they ever tried to copy money to see how it came out. The person replied that was illegal. After the other customers in the store had left I leaned over the counter and whispered, " I bet it comes out pretty good". The employee whispered back, "You have no idea". Then there was a more recent story of a kid with good computer skills and a good printer who decided to print 1$ bills thinking that no one would suspect a conterfeit 1$ bill. He got caught because he could not keep his mouth shut and bragged to his friends. The latest story is the toll taker on the Golden Gate Bridge who seemed to deposit 12 counterfeit 100$ bills in a 3 month period when the average in a year is 2 for all receipts. He was arrested for money laundering.
  • It takes a long time to set-up, but if you know what you're doing and have the right skills, you can pull it off just about anywhere. Anywhere. Although skydive and Merry were correct about some things, like it being illegal and you shoudlnt try it, they were wrong on other things. Its very possible. There are people out there who have the right paper (which is easier to get than you think), know how to produce the red and blue threads (again, easy), and make it come out perfect.. but the only way you can tell is holding it up to the light (thats where your social skills come in). Its actually quite humorous.
  • The best way is to get ahold of the printing plates and some of the paper that they use for the currency. Then all you have to do is stamp it and cut it out.
  • this question is for uncommonly_familiar. In regards to the making of counterfeit currency. When the process has already been started and the only thing left to do is to use a cleaning solution to take off the blue black ink on ALL bills including the legal ones... what would you recommend to remove this blue black ink>>>????
  • O.K., freinds, here's how to do it: Take a one dollar bill; use bleach or nail polish to remove the ink. Then print over a new bill. print out 5 dollar bills becuase there's no collor shifting ink, and the "microprinting on the 5 dollar bill is twice as big as compared to that on the 10 dollar bill. One may think that this is not profitable, but it only takes 4 minutes to make one 5 dollar bill if you are good at it, and the security strip can be replicated by means of printing the letters on the back of your fake bill, covering it up with white gel pen ink, and printing over it (you will only be able to see the security strip from one side, but who checks the strip from the back or even checks 5s at all!)Do the same with the watermark. Becuase you bleach the paper, the blue and red fiber show up too.
  • Coins can be counterfeited by making a mold out of epoxy. First take a piece of aluminum foil and rub it over a coin to take the shape. Invert the coin and foil and press the aluminum side into a equal sized dab of epoxy that has been place on an anvil or other hammer-able surface. Remove the coin from the foil after the epoxy has set up and repeat the same procedure for the reverse side on a separate smaller anvil. after the epoxy is set up insert a slug and hammer until you get a very passable counterfeit coin. Slugs can be made from lead, but will only work with very old drink machines. You can even use plaster of Paris and then spray paint, but they will be lighter in weight. If you are good with math and scales you could come up with a percentage of lead filings and plaster-of-Paris to equal the weight of a regular coin so they can be used in machines.
  • does anyone know how to bypass the security feature in scanners that will not allow you to scan the new U.S. multi-colored bill??? It will scan about %40 of the bill then say it cannot continue.. there must be a away around this!!!

  • what u do in australia is this, get a 50 dollar note, cut a small strip about 1mm wide off and keep it, use the note and they wont even see the missing piece. get another bunch of notes, and keep cutting the next piece of the note off about 1mm wide and tape the note back together. once you have all the pieces you join them with epoxy resin and there you have it, a quick fitty! then u go to crown and put it on evens and lose your hard earned counterfeit to kerry packer and start all over again. the end.
  • use counterweights on your feet
  • To make counterfeit currency, the most impotant part of this complex procedure is to obtain the correct ink.To do this you should cut of the corners of a genunine banknote and send them to an ink producer which by using the banknotes corners will carefully examine it and produce the correct ink for you.Next you need the correct paper.TO OBTAIN THE CORRECT PAPER YOU MUST USE STANDARD quality paper and dip the paper into a concoction of water, coffe and starch. You must perform this task when you print your sheets of counterfeit money. To print the correct currency you need to obtain a printing press which you will need to program and use to print the currency sheets withthe correct ink obtained.
