In America do you need a gun license to buy a gun or do you just show them I.D and you can purchase it? and if you are a visitor from britain whos staying in america can you buy one even if you cant take it home?

Most of these answers are misleading.
1.) There is no federal waiting period required . We have updated to an instant computer background check in the U.S ( My guess is these people live in restrictive states that have their own waiting periods, and are just telling what they know)
2.) There is no federal license required to buy a gun, and in most 'free' states ( like where I live) you only need a license to carry a gun in public not buy one . it is a constitutional freedom we enjoy.
3.) yes you have to be a citizen or legal resedent of the U.S.
4.) you can buy a long gun( shotgun, rifle) at 18 but must be 21 for a handgun or hangun ammunition.

In most states, in order to purchase a weapon, you submit the proper papers to show that you are a U.S. citizen and that you have never been convicted of a felony.

There are other requirements.

A visitor most likely will never be issued a license to purchase a weapon, especially if this person plans to leave the country.

Why not just apply for a license in Britain?

Nope, sorry. You have to obtain a gun permit and you have to go through a three day waiting process where they do a background check. Unless you are buying black powder firearms that is.

You need to be an American Citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident in order to purchase a weapon,and you must not have a felony or be Mentally unstable.

There is also up to 15 days of a waiting period for back gound checks

Sadly you do need a licens to buy a fire arm but if you want to buy a boe and arrow you do not.you do have to have a permit to hunt with the boe and arrow.
