In first grade, I (and about half the class) actually got spanked for coloring a picture wrong. We apparently didn't color it the way she wanted us to. I still think that she is a moron to this day.

Oh yeh, I remember, I got it several times by the Vice Principal. We got a minimum of 3 whacks with per incident from a good fat mean looking paddle. I'm sure I deserved it, although I can’t remember what I did wrong. But It did set on the straight and narrow road. Been an upstanding citizen ever since. lol

Went to a private school that did that. I never got spanked, but my brother did.
I would never send my kids to a school that used such ways. Its a discusting practice. Do some private schools still do this? I sure hope not.

2nd grade also, i was mad because the teacher moved my best friend away and put a girl in his place. i made sure i was the last one to leave the room for lunch and glued her text books and folders together, after lunch was recess and when we got back to the room the discovery was made and i was sent to the pricipals office and he started laughing and told me not to get into anymore trouble for the rest of the year and that was it.

Yes sir I grabbed my ankles and looked at the shinny cars thru the Vice Principles office a few times, teachers used to have there own custom made paddles in the desk; I can remember teachers were allowed to grab students by the neck and slam them against the wall in the hallways, PE teacher was a Combat Veteran who used to hit you with a medicine ball, hed throw it clear across the gymn; hell the janitor even had a paddle, if you walked in the school with your hat on he would take it and you didnt get it back, he was another combat vet with a glass eye that worked. teachers liked mullets to, they would pull the back of your hair and make you stand on your tippy toes and call you a hippy; I could go on and on about how school was different compared to now.

Yes, I remember those days. My brother got the worst of it, because he had severe OCD (an unknown word in those days)and was borderline retarded. One teacher hit him on his hands with a ruler for excessive tapping on the desk and broke all five fingers on his left hand.
The PE teacher let some guys beat him up on the playground one day to "make a man" of him. He came home all bruised and scraped, and my Dad got really mad at the teacher and the school. They fired the teacher.
The other side of it was the teachers used to make me stand up in front of the class while the teacher showed them my work and said "This is what you are all here for. If you did this kind of work, you could all get A's." Naturally they all hated me.

In third grade there was Mrs. Green. She had stick she called "Oscar". I never felt "Oscar", although there were a few who did. Mrs. Green liked me...and I began to settle down.

I remember at one school they made us sit in silence during all of lunch. No talking!!! But once we were finished with lunch we could go to an assigned pay area and talk quietly LOL!!! That didn't last long. Too many kids broke that rule. I bet there weren't enough paddles to keep up :-)

When I was very small my mom married a guy and we moved out to Ohio with him. We were there for about 6 months. I remember getting the paddle one day at school. I don't even remember what I did wrong but my mother was absolutely apeshit and went down to the school and gave them hell. We never did that sort of thing in New Hampshire but it seemed pretty common in Ohio.

No, no one ever got spanked in my elementary school. Outr neighborhood was wealthy, and EVERYONE had a lawyer on retainer, BUT spanking was legal in New York until the 1970's, and I knew children from poorer neighborhoods, and Catholic school who actually got hit. One nun at Cardinal McCloskey beat a boy so bad he had to go to the hospital.
