  • Yes, you'd start to notice a breathing problem after a little more than one mile up (6,000 feet or so), let alone 1500 miles. On the other hand, building a level building from California to NY is absurd anyway, so the breathing is the least of the issues you'd have :) Another way to think about this is that in order for the building to "feel" perfectly level and flat as it goes from California to NY, is that it would actually have to curve and follow the curvature of the Earth. Or more precisely, it would have to be perpendicular to the local gravitational field at every point.
