  • This woman gives an excellent explanation of how to make henna paste. She even gives alot of useful tips and information also.
  • I use http://www.hennapage.com/ for my main henna resource- designs, artists, how-to's, recipes, etc.
  • First you have to get good fresh henna powder. My favorite supplier is Kenzi at http://kenzi.com/henna.htm and I love her spring henna powder from Morocco. It's real stretchy and stringy. Great for long thin lines. She also sells bottles and other things. Another great place to get supplies is http://www.mehandi.com/ You can get all different kinds of henna. Then you have to mix up your paste. Here's a great page on how to mix it. http://www.hennapage.com/henna/how/mix.html And when you really get into it, you might want to try adding oils and such to increase the depth of color. It's a lot of fun:-)
  • I found this nice video tutorial on making henna ink. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2982831757823458685
  • Don't mess around with over priced henna suppliers and instead head to your local Asian (Indian/Pakistani) market. The henna will run you anywhere from $2. to $4. Stay away from black henna (bad stuff) and don't bother with polished henna (useless stuff). There are different recipes and really it all depends on allergies and skin types. Never henna children unless you know there allergies-there is a rare disorder that is affected by henna and can kill children. I have been a henna artist for over 13 years and I still find great henna recipes from time to time. The best bet is for you to experiment with the following ingredients: Here is what you can use as a base liquid: water, coffee, black or jasmine tea, grapefruit or lemon juice. Here are the oils you can use: eucalyptus, clove, lavender, cajeput, olive oil (base oil). 2 tablespoons of really bright (non-polished) henna powder, sifted twice 6 tablespoons of very warm water, coffee, black or jasmine tea (liquid base) 2 talespoons of grapefruit or lemon juice 3 drops of clove oil 3 drops of eucalyptus blend together and push the mix through a piece of cloth or a fine mesh sifter. place uncovered in a very warm place for 2 hours before remixing and then applying to non-lotioned, clean skin. apply a sugar and water liquid base to your almost dry henna tattoo. Wait up to 12 hours if possible before removing the dried henna. Use warm water to remove the henna. Dab on a lavender/cajeput and olive oil mix (5 drops of lavender, cajeput to 1 cup of olive oil) directly to the design. Be careful and not use product you may be sensitive to including tea and coffee containing caffeine. Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun.
