I will have to go with Wayne Gretzky

They call Gretzky "the great one" for a reason.

Wayne Getzky. however Wayne and Lemieux were a pretty good pair back in their days. well Waynes days i mean.

Without a doubt, I'm going to have to go with Lemieux on this one. I'll tell you why. 1) Points/game ratios - Nearly the same. 2) Goals/game - Lemieux played the same number of games of Gretzky, he'd be on pace for 1,115 goals, destroying Gretzky's record by more than 200+ goals! 3) Injuries - Lemieux battled through cancer, hip and back injuries most of his career. 4) Teammates - Gretzky had Kurri, Messier, Coffey, Anderson, etc for half of his career, all of which are 500+ goal scorers. Lemieux had none of this type of talent, except for Jagr which whom he only played a half a dozen seasons with because of injuries. Gretzky was a skilled player, but if the conditions were the same, Lemieux would be without a doubt, the greatest hockey player to ever lace a pair of skates!

my vote is for Gretzky....but very tough decision

definitely the great one gretz!

Mark is absolutly right. It's LEMIEUX lemieux was the most skilled player and the most spectacular player to watch. no one could dominate like lemieux no one was better in one-on-one situations no one has a higher goals per game rating than lemieux, and remember. he had to stopp playing also when he was on his highest level. the call gretzky the great one, because he has the stats. (finally, i'm saying sorry, when my gramatic isn't absolutly right because i'm from germany ,i hope you can understand it.)

Gretzky. Lemieux was great, but not the greatest forward. I'm not really concerned that Mario had a short career. He never broke 200 points. He came close, but Gretzky did it 4 times. Wayne holds both single season assist and goal records and fastest 50 goals. He scored 130 points in his 15th year playing pro. He was great, even when he was old. The most telling stat: Wayne Gretzky holds the career record for most goals. If he had never scored a goal in his career, his assist total alone would be enough to make him the all time NHL leader. To add to the point total, don't forget that Gretzky had 110 points in his pro career from before the WHA amalgamated with the NHL.
